Polygonia C-Album - Oil on metal - Ø 8.6cm

This is a butterfly that I found on the stairs we have from our terrace to the garden. It was just sitting there with it's beautiful wings spread, resting, on a hot summer day in 2022. Little did I know that the next day it's beautiful body would still be there but it's soul had left us. When I had a good look at it, I noticed one of it's antennae had lost it's sensor. It was so beautiful I just had to paint it. I had this old metal whiskey tube that I once bought in the thrift store with the idea of using it as a brush carrier. I never used it as such. It was just standing there in the studio, along with other still life props. The back side of the lid has rusted a bit by now. It is still very solid though. A few years after it's making, this little gem still has it for me.
